Dear Minister Kennedy,

I am writing to you on behalf of the Ballyhornan Task Force to follow up on your visit to us in Ballyhornan as Minister for Regional Development on the 17 November 2011 last.
You met with us both here on the old RAF base and in Parliament Buildings, Stormont on 3 December 2012 to further discuss the Ballyhornan issues.
During these meetings there was common agreement on the need for departments to work together to successfully address issues around Roads and other infrastructure on the old RAF bases and surroundings.
We would like to alert you to an opportunity that has presented itself for this to happen.
Northern Ireland Water are about to commence work on the long awaited new sewage screen work at Ballyhornan which will include digging up the whole of Killard Road and its subsequent resurfacing. This is the key road in Ballyhornan that the Roads Service have not been able to adopt since it was abandoned by the RAF
It has been brought to my notice the reinstatement work will not quite bring this section of road up to the standard required by Roads Service to allow them to adopt it. The opportunity exists for Roads Service to work closely with Northern Ireland Water to ensure this section of road can be adopted with a considerable reduction in costs to your department.
I would ask you to ensure your officials take the required action to ensure this opportunity is seized and delivered ensuring the efficient use of department’s budgets and more importantly helping to address the issues in this area.’
We appreciate your continued support in dealing with the major infrastructure issues that exist in Ballyhornan and surround areas.
