Green Party Cllr Cadogan Enright has welcomed the opening of a new chapter in the life of Down District Council as work was started on new state of the art facilities for the organisation.
Cllr Enright attended an official ceremony at the Downeshire Hospital site on Monday 6th September when the first sod was cut to begin work on the £11.5 million project.
“The current council premises are well below the needs of the staff and public and so it is encouraging to see these new facilities maintaining the symmetrical facade of the original hospital building- the lngest in Ireland- as well as new office space, so we are maintaining our heritage and moving to a bright new future for the Council”.
